The third step in the collaboration lineup between German optical master ‘Schneider-Kreuznach’ and South Korea’s leading optical company ‘LK Samyang’ is about to be taken. The protagonist at the center of the rumors is the new telephoto zoom lens, the ‘AF 60-180mm f/2.8’.

The third joint project between Samyang and Schneider-Kreuznach, which has been shrouded in secrecy, will finally be revealed to the world. According to L-Rumors, a well-known overseas rumor site, and industry sources, LK Samyang is scheduled to officially announce a new collaborative lens on June 25.

The core point of interest for this announcement lies in ‘mount scalability’. Until now, Samyang’s Schneider collaboration lineup (14-24mm f/2.8, 24-60mm f/2.8) has been developed primarily for the Sony E-mount (FE). However, signs of change have been detected since Samyang recently joined the ‘L-Mount Alliance’, which centers around Panasonic, Leica, and Sigma.

The product highly anticipated to be unveiled this time is the ‘AF 60-180mm f/2.8’ telephoto zoom lens, whose prototype was surprisingly revealed at the last CP+. Among existing users, expectations are at an all-time high regarding whether this lens will be released for the L-mount simultaneously with the Sony FE mount. If an L-mount release is confirmed, L-mount camera users will gain an attractive German-Korean joint option that delivers both affordability and high performance, expanding beyond the existing heavy and expensive telephoto zoom lens lineups. Global creators are closely watching the detailed specifications and supported mount information of this new product, which expands the zoom lens system combining Schneider’s traditional optical design know-how with Samyang’s high-performance AF technology into the telephoto range.

[Editor's Comment]

"It is true that the L-mount camp has left something to be desired when it comes to third-party telephoto zoom lens options. If Samyang throws in the 60-180mm with a fixed f/2.8 aperture in a compact size for the L-mount as well, it will be a much-needed blessing for Panasonic Lumix and Sigma body users. We look forward to Samyang’s clever move with a spoonful of German sensibility." - Technical Editor, Team Leader Choi
