SG-Image, a Chinese optical manufacturer gaining traction for its cost-effective third-party lenses, is set to introduce a new autofocus (AF) prime lens tailored for Micro Four Thirds (MFT) system users.
According to camera rumor authorities, including '43rumors', SG-Image will officially launch the ‘AF 25mm f/1.8’ lens for the Micro Four Thirds mount on June 15. This new release is the MFT adaptation of their existing lens, which previously gained significant popularity in APS-C formats for Sony E, Fujifilm X, and Nikon Z mounts.
Delivering an equivalent focal length of approximately 50mm on the MFT system, this standard prime lens features a bright f/1.8 aperture. This allows photographers to secure stable shutter speeds even in low-light environments, such as indoors or at night. Furthermore, its 9-blade aperture design produces a smooth, beautiful background blur (bokeh) effect, making it highly effective for portrait and street photography.
The optical formula consists of 7 elements in 5 groups, including 3 high-refractive index lenses, engineered to minimize distortion and chromatic aberration while delivering crisp, sharp images. Despite its impressive optical performance, the lens weighs a mere 145g and measures just 31mm in thickness, achieving a perfect balance with the ultra-compact bodies characteristic of the Micro Four Thirds system.
With a minimum focusing distance of 0.3m, it is also highly versatile for close-ups, food, and product photography. Available in sleek black and silver finishes, users can choose the option that best complements the classic aesthetic of their Olympus (OM System) or Panasonic bodies. Industry insiders predict that since the original APS-C version was priced incredibly competitively in the low $100s, this MFT variant will also offer excellent value, quickly establishing itself as a "must-have everyday lens" for MFT enthusiasts.
