The first step toward the X-Trans 6 generation… Capacity significantly upgraded to 2,550mAh

A strong piece of evidence indicating that the launch of Fujifilm’s next-generation mirrorless camera, the 'X-T6', is drawing near has been detected. As the registration of Fujifilm's new battery model, the 'NP-W255', was confirmed through an overseas certification agency, expectations among users for the next flagship APS-C body, the X-T6, are reaching a fever pitch.

According to FujiRumors, a media outlet specializing in camera rumors, Fujifilm recently registered its next-generation battery, the 'NP-W255', with an overseas radio certification authority. The capacity of the newly revealed battery is 2,550mAh, which is a roughly 16% increase compared to the NP-W235 (2,200mAh) widely used in existing models like the X-T4, X-T5, and the X-H series.

This physical increase in battery capacity is interpreted as an essential change to meet the power requirements of the next-generation image processing engine, 'X-Processor 6', and the new sensor that Fujifilm is set to introduce. Industry insiders believe that power consumption has risen due to the substantial integration of features such as improved high-resolution continuous shooting speeds, enhanced AI-driven autofocus (AF) performance, and high-bitrate video recording, including 8K capabilities.

Battery efficiency has consistently been a point of critique among mirrorless camera users. Fujifilm’s decision to upgrade the version of its proprietary battery and increase its capacity is analyzed as a determination to capture both performance enhancements and shooting longevity simultaneously. Now that the battery registration process has officially begun, the official announcement of the 'X-T6' is also expected to take place in the near future.

[Editor's Note] "While losing compatibility with the existing battery (NP-W235) is a bit disappointing, the capacity increase to 2,550mAh is undoubtedly welcome news for users who have frequently grown anxious over 'Low Battery' warnings mid-shoot. Given that power consumption has increased, I am already incredibly eager to see just how monstrous the X-T6's actual performance will be."
