- Version 1.10 Unveiled, Resolving AF Lag When Paired with 2x Teleconverter (TC-2.0x)

Nikon has officially released the first firmware update for its next-generation, high-performance telephoto zoom lens, the "NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II," which recently began shipping worldwide.
Released on June 3 (local time), firmware version 1.10 was promptly developed to address specific autofocus (AF) performance issues reported shortly after the lens's market launch.
According to Nikon, the primary fix in this update resolves an issue where the autofocus response would temporarily slow down when the lens was paired with Nikon’s dedicated Z-mount teleconverter, the "NIKON Z TELECONVERTER TC-2.0x." With this fix, professional sports and wildlife photographers—who frequently rely on the 2x teleconverter to reach a super-telephoto focal length of up to 400mm—can expect significantly improved shooting stability and reliability.
Meanwhile, the "NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II" has generated substantial buzz for its superior image quality and lighter design compared to its predecessor, with global shipments currently underway. However, due to a surge in initial demand, some regions, including Japan, are experiencing shortages, with the next wave of inventory expected as late as September.
The firmware update file and detailed installation instructions are available on the official Nikon Download Center website.
[Editor's Note] Nikon’s swift response to patching a newly released flagship lens is highly commendable. In the fast-paced world of super-telephoto photography, where missing a split second means missing the shot, autofocus responsiveness is everything. If you frequently pair your gear with the TC-2.0x teleconverter, we strongly recommend running this update before your next shoot.
