Bringing the Soul of Leica's Optical Heritage to the Fujifilm GFX Large-Format System

Leitz Cine GmbH, the world-renowned German manufacturer of premium cinema lenses, has officially expanded the compatibility of its popular mirrorless cinema prime lens lineup, the "HEKTOR" series, to include the Fujifilm G-mount.
With this new release, cinematographers and creators worldwide can now experience the classic, character-rich optical performance inherent to the Leitz name on Fujifilm's large-format cinema camera, the GFX Eterna 55, as well as the GFX100 series medium-format mirrorless cameras.
The HEKTOR series consists of six focal lengths—18mm, 25mm, 35mm, 50mm, 73mm, and 100mm—all featuring a fast T2.1 aperture. While originally designed to cover full-frame sensors, the lenses possess a generous image circle that goes beyond standard full-frame boundaries. When shooting in "Open Gate" mode on the larger Fujifilm GFX sensors, some wider focal lengths may exhibit slight vignetting or peripheral illumination drop-off. However, in traditional cinematic aspect ratios such as 16:9, they offer excellent coverage with minimal cropping.
A key highlight of this release is the user-changeable mount system. The addition of the G-mount—joining the existing Sony E, Leica L, Canon RF, and Nikon Z options—provides an ideal solution for rental houses and multi-camera creators who frequently switch between different camera bodies. Customers can purchase the lenses with the G-mount pre-installed or buy the G-mount kit separately to swap it themselves using basic tools. Note that these are passive mounts without electronic contacts, meaning lens metadata will not be communicated to the camera body.
"As camera systems and formats continue to evolve, we are thrilled to collaborate with numerous manufacturers to bring our most exciting lens series, the HEKTOR, to an even wider audience of creators," said Rainer Hercher, Managing Director of Leitz Cine.
The Leitz HEKTOR lenses and individual mount kits are available for purchase now. Inspired by classic 1930s-1950s Leica M and Petzval lenses, yet reimagined with modern build quality, the HEKTOR series is famous for its gorgeous flare characteristics and smooth, painterly fall-off. Industry eyes are now on how this distinct look will synergize with the massive sensors of the Fujifilm GFX ecosystem.
📝 Editor's Note
"By stepping beyond full-frame into the medium-format cinema realm, the Leitz HEKTOR on Fujifilm GFX is more than just a compatibility update. It is a bold fusion that marries the immense depth of a large sensor with a century of German optical density. For cinematographers seeking an alternative to the sterile perfection of modern glass, a captivating new choice has arrived."
