Total imaging solution company Canon Korea (CEO Park Jung-woo) has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with medical AI software specialist BCN Company (CEO Woo Joo-yeop) and the Department of Advanced General Dentistry at Yonsei University College of Dentistry (Prof. Park Won-seo) for joint research and global commercialization of an AI-powered clinical photo management solution.
This partnership was established as part of the “2026 D.N.A. Large & Small Business Partnership Overseas Expansion” project hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA). The initiative has drawn significant industry attention as a collaborative model combining a domestic medical AI software firm, a global imaging manufacturer, and a university clinical research institution.
1. Integration & Enhancement of AI Clinical Photo Management Solution ‘MediPhoto’
In medical environments with high demand for medical photography—such as dental and dermatology clinics—image consistency has historically varied depending on equipment and shooting environments, creating a heavy manual workload for organizing photos by patient, date, and treatment area.
- Process Automation: ‘MediPhoto’ is an AI-powered platform that automatically edits, categorizes, and saves clinical photos immediately after medical staff take them.
- Digital Transformation & Maximum Efficiency: Through MediPhoto, the three entities plan to drive digital transformation in clinical photo management, establishing consistent datasets and significantly improving workflow efficiency for medical professionals.
2. Synergizing Core Strengths: Optical Hardware, AI Software, & Clinical Research
- Canon Korea: Provides high-performance imaging gear—including high-resolution camera bodies and macro lenses compatible with MediPhoto—and leads entry into overseas markets leveraging its global network.
- BCN Company: Handles on-site pilot operations and AI platform enhancements based on its experience deploying MediPhoto across approximately 600 medical institutions in Korea.
- Department of Advanced General Dentistry, Yonsei University College of Dentistry: Serves as a co-executing institution providing clinical consultation, research design, and verification to evaluate the real-world applicability of the solution in clinical settings.
3. Global Expansion Starting with HKU Faculty of Dentistry, Expanding to Japan & Uzbekistan
The three parties will first conduct pilot testing at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) Faculty of Dentistry to evaluate user convenience, clinical applicability, and workflow improvements in overseas medical environments. Based on pilot data and local feedback, the partnership plans to expand into key global markets including Japan and Uzbekistan, tailoring service models to each country's clinical standards.
