In celebration of the 48th Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee hosted in Busan—the very first time the prestigious event is held in South Korea—Fujifilm Electronic Imaging Korea (Fujifilm Korea) is launching a large-scale photography exhibition housed inside a living piece of modern architectural heritage. Fujifilm Korea announced that it will host the ‘Space Fujifilm’ Special Exhibition for approximately one month until August 18th at the former Baekje Hospital in Busan, registered as National Registered Cultural Heritage No. 645.
The special exhibition kicks off as part of the opening celebrations for the 48th UNESCO World Heritage Committee Session in Busan. It will subsequently link with the special exhibition program of the ‘2026 Busan International Photo Festival,’ welcoming global attendees and photography enthusiasts visiting Busan.
1. Documenting Korea's Heritage... Phases 1 Through 4 of Project ‘A Thousand Cameras’ Gathered in One Place
The core highlights of this exhibition bring together the cumulative results of ‘A Thousand Cameras’—a flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR) archiving initiative led by Fujifilm Korea alongside renowned documentary photographer Seong Nam-hun since 2023.
- A Rich Spectrum of UNESCO Heritage: The showcase features evocative works captured through the contemporary lenses of both professional and citizen photographers who participated in Phases 1 through 4 of the project. The curated images document a continuous historical flow—spanning royal palaces and court culture, ancient mountain temples, Buddhist heritage sites, natural monuments, intangible cultural treasures, and the wartime provisional capital of Busan.
- Illuminating Cultural Contexts and Lives: Moving beyond superficial records of historical monuments, the exhibition dives deep into the cultural contexts, local histories, regional traditions, and daily lives of the communities that have shaped these world heritage sites over generations.
2. Synergistic Fusion of the Historic 'Former Baekje Hospital' and the Global UNESCO Event
- Exhibition Inside a National Registered Cultural Heritage Site: Built in 1927, the former Baekje Hospital stands as Busan’s first modern private general hospital (National Registered Cultural Heritage No. 645). Its red-brick facade and wooden interior architecture preserve the authentic passage of time and the history of wartime Busan. The analogue resonance generated between this heritage space and the UNESCO documentary photographs offers visitors a deeply immersive experience.
- 3,000 Global Delegates and Official Ambassador G-DRAGON: The 48th Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee—the first ever held in South Korea—will gather approximately 3,000 high-profile attendees, including the Director-General of UNESCO, delegations from 196 state parties, and advisory bodies. Adding international prestige, global artist G-DRAGON has been appointed as the official goodwill ambassador, recognizing his ongoing messages of peace through music and the altruistic philosophy of his JustPeace Foundation.
