Fujifilm Electronic Imaging Korea (hereafter referred to as Fujifilm Korea), highly favored by indie filmmakers and solo creators for its unique color science and cinematic rendering, is taking a major step forward to nurture rising cinematic talent. Fujifilm Korea announced on the 15th that it is partnering with Dankook University’s Graduate School of Culture, Arts, and Design to host the ‘5th Short Film Production Workshop’, with registrations open on a first-come, first-served basis from today until July 31.

This workshop offers exceptional benefits—ranging from free camera gear rentals to close mentoring by professional faculty—allowing aspiring creators to fully experience the condensed process of filmmaking. High competition for registration is widely anticipated.

1. “From Diaries, Letters, and Memos to the Big Screen”... A 6-Week Journey of Transforming Everyday Life into Film

The 5th Short Film Production Workshop boasts a highly practical, hands-on curriculum designed to help anyone translate their own personal stories into visual art, even without a grand script.

  • Translating Personal Records into Cinematic Language: Participants will expand their everyday moments—such as diaries, memos, letters, and text messages—into a cinematic perspective. Free from the constraints of traditional genres or structures, they will develop their personal emotions and experiences through both individual and team projects.
  • A Practice-Driven, 6-Week Complete Architecture: The course runs every Sunday from August 2 to September 6 at 'Particle', Fujifilm Korea’s cultural complex located in Cheongdam-dong, Seoul.
    • Weeks 1–3: Foundations of cinematography, audio recording, and editing; analyzing ideas and developing screenplays.
    • Weeks 4–5: On-location shooting for individual projects and initial editing feedback.
    • Week 6: Completing the final cut and hosting the closing screening event.

2. Flagship 'X-H2S' Camera and Power Zoom Lens Fully Provided for All Participants

To ensure participants can fully immerse themselves in the creative process without worrying about gear accessibility, Fujifilm Korea is providing top-tier cinema hardware support.

  • Flagship Cinema Gear Support: Every participant will be loaned Fujifilm's flagship hybrid mirrorless camera, the ‘X-H2S’—renowned for its 6K internal recording and high-speed subject tracking autofocus—paired with the ‘XF 18-120mm F4 LM PZ WR’, an all-in-one cinema lens optimized for filmmaking with smooth, motorized power zoom control.
  • Elite Faculty and Production Funding Incentives: Lectures will be led by Professor Kim Woo-jae of Dankook University's Graduate School of Culture, Arts, and Design (Department of Film), who will share advanced mise-en-scène analysis and practical shooting techniques. Additionally, the top two outstanding projects selected during the final screening will receive dedicated film production grants.

3. Fujifilm's Academic Partnerships for a Sustainable Film Ecosystem

The enrollment capacity is strictly limited to 15 participants and will close on a first-come, first-served basis on July 31. Im Hoon, President of Fujifilm Korea, stated, "This workshop is designed to help participants discover the pure joy and vast possibilities of creation." He added, "We will continue to strengthen our academic partnerships with institutions such as the Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA), Seoul Institute of the Arts, and Dankook University. By sponsoring the Jeonju International Film Festival and providing hardware support, we remain committed to contributing to the sustainable growth of the domestic film industry and visual arts culture."

✍️ Editor's Note

"Fujifilm is truly establishing itself as a genuine 'creative companion,' nurturing the local visual art ecosystem far beyond its role as a camera hardware manufacturer! This 5th workshop feels especially meaningful. Rather than aiming for grand blockbusters, the program invites you to transform personal scribbles in your phone’s notepad or a heartfelt text message exchanged with a loved one into an authentic short film—a concept that is incredibly exciting. On top of that, they are loaning out Fujifilm's highest-spec video body, the 'X-H2S,' along with the cinema power zoom lens (XF 18-120mm) entirely for free! For aspiring directors who have hesitated due to the high cost of equipment rentals, there is no better opportunity than this. Since registration is strictly capped at the first 15 applicants, there is no time to lose. Knock on the door of Cheongdam Particle today, and complete your very first film credits on the big screen six weeks from now!"
