- More affordable than R6 Mark III with powerful video specs "V Series" lineup strengthened by removing EVF

Canon’s new full-frame mirrorless camera, the ‘EOS R6 V’, is expected to be officially announced on May 13. Unlike the existing photography-focused lineup, this new model is anticipated to be a core piece of the ‘V (Video) Series’, targeting professional videographers.

■ A "Mini C50"? Support for 7K RAW Video

The most striking feature is its video performance. The EOS R6 V is rumored to feature a 32.5-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor, capable of internally recording up to 7K resolution Open Gate RAW video at 60 frames per second (fps). These specifications rival those of higher-end models or the cinema lineup like the EOS C50, generating high expectations among video professionals.

Notably, an 'active cooling' (internal fan) system will be installed to address overheating during long shoots. Users will likely be able to adjust fan speeds between low, medium, and high to ensure a stable shooting environment.

■ Radical Omissions for an "Aggressive Price"

Another hallmark of the EOS R6 V is its practical design. To cater to video workflows, the electronic viewfinder (EVF) and mechanical shutter—rarely used in high-end video production—have been removed. This has reduced the body weight to approximately 598g, about 100g lighter than the EOS R6 Mark III, with a compact body size similar to the entry-level EOS R50 V.

These hardware omissions lead to competitive pricing. According to industry rumors, the EOS R6 V could be priced about $300 to $400 lower than the EOS R6 Mark III. This makes it an attractive alternative for solo creators who want high-performance video gear without the steep cost.

■ Enhanced Ergonomics and New Lens Arrival

In terms of design, a new grip pattern similar to the flagship EOS R1 will be applied, providing a secure hold even in wet or humid conditions. Additionally, a separate tripod mount point is expected on the side of the body to facilitate vertical video shooting.

Canon is also expected to introduce a new bundle lens, the 'RF 20-50mm f/4L IS USM PZ'. Featuring a Power Zoom (PZ) function, this lens covers wide-angle to standard focal lengths and is anticipated to provide smooth zooming during video recording.

■ Outlook

With a May 13 announcement looking certain, the EOS R6 V is scheduled for global release in June. Industry experts analyze that "by following the EOS R50 V with the R6 V, Canon is solidifying its video-specialized lineup." They add, "Securing price competitiveness while including IBIS (In-Body Image Stabilization) will be a key factor in its competition against models like the Nikon Z R."
