- E-mount version to launch first, with L-mount version following later; Set to shake up the telephoto zoom lens market

The collaboration between Germany’s legendary optical powerhouse, Schneider Kreuznach, and South Korea’s leading optical manufacturer, LK Samyang, shines once again. It has been confirmed that the 'AF 60-180mm F2.8', a new telephoto zoom lens integrating the advanced optical technologies of both companies, will be officially announced on June 25.

This new product marks their second collaboration, following the 'AF 24-60mm F2.8 FE' which garnered significant attention last year. By extending their lineup from the standard zoom range into the telephoto domain, the two companies are clearly aiming to solidify their presence in the premium lens market.

■ The Perfect Balance of Portability and a Constant Aperture

The 'AF 60-180mm F2.8', which generated high anticipation among photographers when its prototype was partially unveiled at global camera exhibitions (such as CP+) earlier this year, boasts a compact size and lightweight design despite supporting a constant F2.8 aperture. The exterior design maximizes convenience for professional shooting environments, featuring an AF/MF switch, a customizable Fn button, and a Zoom Lock switch to prevent barrel zoom creep.

■ Sony E-mount First, L-mount to Follow

According to foreign media and industry insiders, the Sony E-mount version will hit the market first alongside the official announcement on June 25. Leica, Panasonic, and Sigma users eagerly waiting for the L-mount version will have to wait a bit longer, as it is scheduled to be released sequentially during the second half of this year. Pricing and detailed specifications will be finalized and revealed during the global announcement on the 25th.

[Editor's Note]

"Following the 24-60mm, the alliance between Samyang and Schneider is growing increasingly dense and formidable. Breaking away from the traditional 70-200mm telephoto focal range and starting at 60mm could prove to be a stroke of genius. If it successfully combines a lightweight body, Schneider's signature color rendering, and Samyang's renowned cost-effectiveness, it has all the potential to become a true game-changer in the telephoto zoom market."Goeun Choi, Optical Tech Editor
