- From Wired Connections to RAW Editing and S&Q Video Creation: A Complete Evolution of the Mobile Workflow
Panasonic has officially rolled out a major version 3.0.0 update for its dedicated smartphone application, 'LUMIX Lab,' introducing an even more powerful mobile workflow for creators. Moving far beyond simple convenience tweaks, this update focuses heavily on establishing a complete, PC-free, "on-the-go" editing environment.
The most notable upgrade is, without a doubt, the newly added support for RAW photo editing. Users can now transfer RW2 RAW files directly from their cameras to their smartphones to precisely develop and export them within the app. This opens up a seamless path to controlling rich gradations and fine details directly on a mobile screen, without having to rely on desktop software like Lightroom or Capture One.
For video creators, a new 'S&Q (Slow & Quick) Video Editing' feature has been introduced. Users can now adjust timeline speeds using speed curves, allowing them to easily implement dynamic motion—ranging from 5x slow motion to 10x quick motion—with just a few taps on their smartphone.
Connectivity and expandability have also been significantly enhanced. Moving past the occasionally tedious Bluetooth and Wi-Fi pairing processes, the app now supports a direct 'Wired Connection' via a USB cable. This allows for seamless, highly stable, and lightning-fast transfers of high-capacity images, videos, and LUT files.
The ecosystem surrounding 'Real-Time LUT,' a signature feature of the LUMIX lineup, has evolved to the next level as well. Users can now go beyond basic color grading to customize detailed texture parameters, including grain, color noise, sharpness, and noise reduction, to craft their own unique film-look LUTs. Furthermore, professionalism has been elevated with the inclusion of 'Magic LUT'—an AI-driven tool that analyzes reference images to replicate their tone—alongside HSL target adjustments for fine-tuning specific colors, and a robust undo/redo history that tracks up to 100 steps.
Additionally, overall management convenience has reached its peak with a new feature that allows users to download camera firmware directly through the app and initiate automatic updates. The v3.0.0 update is available across the entire LUMIX Lab-compatible lineup running the latest firmware, including the LUMIX S9, S5II, S5IIX, S1II, S1RII, GH7, G9II, and the newly released L10.
