- Effective June 1st; Global Market Ripple Effects Highly Anticipated

Nikon Japan has officially announced a price hike for select product lines, including its latest APS-C mirrorless camera, the Z50II. According to camera news outlet Nikon Rumors, this price adjustment will take effect in the Japanese domestic market starting June 1, 2026.
At the center of this price hike is the Z50II, which has been gaining significant traction in the entry-level to mid-range segment. The price increase applies to the entire Z50II lineup, including the body-only option, the 16-50 VR Lens Kit, the Double Zoom Kit, and the 18-140 VR Lens Kit.
Beyond cameras, several accessories and optical products were also added to the list. Premium binocular lines such as the Nikon 8x20HG L DCF and 10x25HG L DCF, pocket pocket magnifiers (12D/16D/20D), and the TRA-5 tripod adapter will see their prices rise as well.
Industry experts suggest that this price hike is closely tied to Nikon's recent financial performance. While Nikon recently achieved volume growth driven by explosive sales of its budget-friendly models like the Z50II and Z5II, the company has faced profitability pressures due to rising promotional costs and declining average selling prices amid intensifying competition.
Meanwhile, it remains uncertain whether Nikon Japan’s decision will be confined to the domestic market or trigger a domino effect of price increases globally, including in South Korea. Coupled with the weak yen, this move is expected to complicate the calculations for international buyers who were considering direct imports from Japan.
Editor's Note
"Even Nikon, the champion of value-for-money, is finally raising prices... They say everything is going up except our paychecks, and the camera market is clearly no exception. The price hike on the Z50II, a highly popular entry-level APS-C body, feels especially painful. If you've been eyeing this gear, you might want to pull the trigger before domestic prices potentially follow suit!"
