Nikon has officially released new firmware updates bringing bug fixes, operational enhancements, and functional expansions to both the 3000mm ultra-telephoto superzoom Coolpix P1000 and the full-frame mirrorless Z5II.

According to dedicated news outlet Nikon Rumors and Nikon's official Download Center, the release consists of Firmware Version 1.9 for the Coolpix P1000 and Firmware Version 1.20 for the Z5II. The P1000 update addresses a freezing issue during burst zooming, while the Z5II update introduces the newly renamed 'Imaging Recipe' integration, refined menu options, and the removal of video Shutter-Priority (S) mode aperture restrictions.

Here is a breakdown of the key changes outlined in the official firmware release notes.

1. Coolpix P1000 Firmware Version 1.9: Burst Zoom Bug Fix

  • Fixed Burst Zoom Freezing Glitch: Resolved an intermittent issue where operating the zoom lever during continuous (burst) shooting would cause the camera to become unresponsive or freeze, restoring operational reliability.

2. Z5II Firmware Version 1.20: Cloud Terminology Updates & Feature Enhancements

  • Transition to 'Imaging Recipe': The previous "Cloud Picture Control" item within the Picture Control menu has been renamed to "Imaging Recipe", with the file import option updated to "Download Imaging Recipe" for clearer Nikon Imaging Cloud integration.
  • Photo Shooting Menu Refinement: Expanded/adjusted selectable shutter speed thresholds under [ISO sensitivity settings] > [Minimum shutter speed].
  • Setup & Monitor Display Options Added:
    • Added a [When save user settings] option under [Save focus position] in the Setup menu.
    • Added a new [Auto display switch for monitor] option in the Setup menu.
  • Expanded Network Functions: Added an [Always keep Wi-Fi ON] setting when connecting to smart devices in AP mode, alongside an [Idle connection timeout] setting for FTP server transfers.
  • Lifted Video S-Mode Aperture Restrictions: Removed the previous aperture adjustment limitations when recording video in Shutter-Priority (S) mode, giving filmmakers greater manual exposure flexibility.

✍️ Editor's Note

"It's great to see Nikon continue software support for the legendary P1000 superzoom by squashing that persistent burst-zooming freeze bug! Meanwhile, the Z5II receives a thoughtful update spanning Nikon Imaging Cloud naming alignment, enhanced menu controls, and the removal of video S-mode aperture limits. If you're shooting with either of these cameras, make sure to update your firmware before your next shoot for a smoother shooting experience!"
